Shia LaBouf is a great lead role, John Turturro, John Voight, Anthony Anders and others had really cool side roles, and they made the movie worthwhile. It made the movie one hell of a lot funnier. It was clear that everyone knew that one can hardly take a few car robots seriously, and so no one didn't. Transformers went further than just the visual shebang.
But we can also state that Bay's previous work, with a few exception, was nonetheless fairly disappointing. And this is an absolute plus to all his work, basically.
Stunning visuals, brilliant editing, mind-blowing set pieces, say about mister Bay what you will, he has always had an eye for the visual.
Andy Davis: To infinity.No, it is not a smart movie, or a well written one, but this movie certainly has it's goods, and one can hardly deny it is fairly entertaining. Woody's Voice Box: There's a snake in my boot!. Andy Davis: Mom! I found him! I found him!. Sometimes they get left in the yard or put in the wrong box. Bo Peep: You know, kids lose their toys every day. We'll sneak in the hedges before he's back. Car Owner: Molly, are you sure that it's alright?. Davis: I'm so glad to see this old lamp go to a good home. Woody and Bo Peep: Operation: Pull Toy!. 
Woody: They have names? You never told me that. Woody: Jessie, Buzz, Slink, Molly's room. Jessie: I hope they make it back alright. Jessie: Whoa!
